Specialty
Pallets
Olympic offers an array of customized specialty pallets. These items differ from
the conventional size pallets that are normally made on a pallet-nailing machine.
Specialty pallets usually have unique features to them such as: longer lengths,
heavier thickness, special notches, cut outs, and anything else that may not
be produced in a conventional manner or on a nailing machine. Our network of
specialty mills has been set up for both hardwood and softwood products to
meet
our customers’ specialty requirements. Below is a limited list of only
some of the special products and more popular features available.
Skids are pallets lacking bottom deck boards. They are usually used for heavy applications such as steel coils. Skids may also have special cut outs, like banding notches, beveled runners, or clipped corners, for different applications.
Crates and Boxes are shipping containers that require
a base and sides in order to ship material in bulk quantities. These
may also have all the accessories
applied, such as bolts, wiring, and hinges.

Frames are constructed using dimension lumber in a square or rectangular structure similar to the way ‘picture frames’ would be constructed. There are no runners or stringers, and clinch staples usually hold the joints together. They are used for separating and supporting material stacked on pallets.
Banding Notches are recesses or cut outs on the edge of stringers or the bottom of deck boards to allow products to be fastened to pallet top decks with strapping or banding. They are usually applied to runners and/or deck boards that require heavy applications.

Clipped Corners refers to the top and/or bottom deck boards that have the outer edges cut at a 45 angle in order to give the pallets a more rounded shape. This process is used when shrink-wrapping is required and applied to prevent the corners from tearing the wrap.

Beveled Runners are runners that have the bottom edges cut at 45 angles.
They are usually applied to skids to allow the handling equipment to
function properly. This process is normally used for extremely heavy
material handling conditions.

We have the ability to do light assembly work including attaching a collapsible corrugated box to a pallet using staples. This creates a single-unit shipping container that will knockdown when not in use and also eliminates the process of assembly in-house for the customer.
