OSB
(Oriented Strand Board) & Plywood
OSB (Oriented Strand Board) and Plywood are two useful
types of materials for separating and supporting products. Standard size
sheets of the material are 4’ x 8’, but may be cut down to
a particular size for specific requirements. OSB and Plywood top pallets
are specialty pallets used in material handling for moving heavy loads
of product that require full coverage during delivery to eliminate damage.
One of the most common questions in our industry is “What is the difference between OSB and Plywood?” OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is an engineered mat-formed panel product made of strands, flakes or wafers, sliced from small diameter, round wood logs and bonded with an exterior-type adhesive under heat and pressure. The mat-formed panels are layered and bound together to a specific thickness.
Plywood is made by gluing together a number of thin plies, a thin sheet
of wood, made of hardwood or softwood, in layers. The grain of one
layer is perpendicular
to the grain on the next to increase the strength and stability of the plywood.
Today, in many applications, OSB and Plywood are interchangeable.
