New
Wooden Pallets
New wooden pallets are made of all species and grades of hardwood and various softwood species of lumber. There are many types of pallets including Runner Type, Block Type and GMA (Grocery Manufacturer’s Association), etc. Construction of the best pallets for our customers depends upon their requests, specifications and applications. Our experienced staff is available for assistance in creating or finding the optimal pallets. Once this is determined, pallets are tailored to the customer’s requirements, including species of wood, the amount of weight that the pallets will carry and custom design features.
Runner Type Pallets have deck boards that are attached to solid pieces of wood called runners. The width, length, and height of the runner depend on the customer’s requirements. They can be built as a 2-way runner pallet or a 4-way runner pallet. The 2-way runner pallet consists of un-notched runners with entry only at the ends.
Example of a 2-Way Entry Runner
Pallet:

With a 4-way entry pallet, a notch is cut out of the runner to allow the tow motor (forklift) to enter on all four sides of the pallet. While the industry standard notch size is 1.5” x 9”, this also can be customized per the customer’s requirements. The placement is usually set in 6” for a 48” runner (Please see 48 x 40 GMA for example of a standard notch).
Example of a 4-Way Runner Pallet:

Block Type Pallets’ construction involves blocks and stringers (instead of runners) and decking
that are all nailed together.
Block Type Pallets are true 4-way entry pallets and may be accessed by
a forklift or pallet jack on all
four sides.
Example of a Block Type Pallet:

Double-Faced Pallets are pallets that include top and bottom deck boards. The configuration and dimension of deck boards may vary, but no matter how the pallets are configured and as long as the pallets have top and bottom decking, they are considered Double-Faced Pallets.
Single-Faced Pallets are pallets with only top deck boards. The decking may vary depending on the configuration of the boards, but as long as there are no bottom deck boards, they are considered Single-Faced Pallets. They may be referred to as skids. To save space during shipping, they may be nested. These pallets are usually in the heavy class of pallets, but occasionally may be designed for expendable use.
GMA (Grocery Manufacturer’s Association) Pallets
are one of the few “standard” pallets. They are 48” long
x 40” wide and have standard specifications for the arrangement
of two 5.5” lead boards and five 3.5” middle boards for the
top decking, and two 5.5” lead boards and three 3.5” middle
boards for the bottom decking. They are used not only by the food industry,
but also by metal and glass container manufacturers, paper and packaging
manufacturers, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as many
other numerous distribution channels. GMA’s versatility makes them
the most popular pallet in our industry.

Customer Application Example: A customer’s product
needs to be shipped to a food distribution center. They require a 48” x
40” GMA new
pallet, holding approximately 2,500 lbs. After reviewing their requirements,
we recommended the specification shown above, which may cycle through their
distribution system approximately four times, under normal usage, before needing
repairs.
Euro Pallets are standard pallet sizes used in Europe. The most popular size is 1200 mm by 800 mm. In US measurements, it is approximately 47.5” x 31.5”. The pallet is a block structure and best used for export shipments to Europe.
Drum Pallets are used primarily for shipping drum containers. They are usually made with a heavy specification for holding large amounts of weight. The structure may consist of runner type or block type. The most prominent size of drum pallets are 48” x 48”.
